Once more it was Child Protection Week and COPESSA took action in the community of Protea Glen. On the 2nd of June 2017, Copessa held a Child protection awareness talk at the two local Primary Schools Basa and Faranani Primary Schools joined by the South African Police Service (SAPS) and Sanca. More than one thousand children participated in the awareness campaign. The aim of the event was to mobilise all sectors of society in preventing and addressing violence against children as it remains a major challenge. We need to ensure that children in our community are safe, cared for and protected.
The second half of our Child Protection campaign took place in the COPESSA After-Care Programme. Due to what has been happening in our country since January 2017, children have been killed, kidnapped, missing, raped and mutilated. Children at the COPESSA After-Care Programme were given an opportunity to express how they feeling about what has been happening to their friends, sisters and brothers. The slogans we chose were: “Enough is Enough”, “I am someone’s child”, “I am a human being” and “our body parts are not for sale”.
